Bethany comes up short in season-opener at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio (Feb. 24) - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a 16-2 loss at Heidelberg in a non-conference match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Student Princes notched four goals in the first five minutes to jump out to an early lead. After several scoreless minutes, Heidelberg notched two more to take a 6-0 lead.
- Bethany got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by junior Will Gatling (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) with 1:10 left in the first quarter to make the score 6-1 heading into the second period.
- Heidelberg grabbed two more markers in the second quarter to enter halftime up 8-1.
- Bethany freshman Nicholas Melita (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) scored his first-career goal less than two minutes into the third quarter to help the Bison climb to within six at 8-2, but the Bison would be held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
MATCH NOTES
- Bethany senior Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) made 15 saves on 31 shots on goal.
- The Bison were out-shot 42-to-19 in the match.
- Bethany was successful in the draws, winning 15-of-22 of the faceoffs. Senior Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) ended the day 12-of-17 on draws.
