Softball Earns Split on Last Day in Florida

Kissimmee, Fl - The Bethany College softball team competed in the Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida Friday afternoon. The Bison earned the split on the day. Bethany defeated Buffalo St. in game one and were defeated by Hope in game two.  The green and white earned their first victory of the season in the 10-3 win over Buffalo St.

The Bengals attacked first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning and plated one more run in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Bethany bats came alive, scoring six runs on six hits.

Erica Amoroso led the inning off with a single. Tyra Bell doubled to right center, scoring Amoroso. A couple batters later, Gabby Capaldi doubled, scoring Kaitlyn Mills and Tyra Bell knotting the game at 3-3. Kathleen Fuchs singled to left field, driving in G. Capaldi. Moments later, Jennifer Oberthur singles up the middle, plating Kayla Dinsmore and Fuchs. Bell gets her second at bat of the inning, singling up the middle to drive in Dinsmore.


In the fifth inning, the Bison add three more runs to their lead. G. Capaldi led the inning off with a walk. Janaya Hazlip pinch ran for Capaldi. Hazlip scored on a throwing error from the Bengals catcher. Moments later, Emily Folk tripled driving in Lauren Maichle. Dinsmore scored Folk with a ground out to the pitcher. In the sixth inning, the Bison tact on another insurance run, from a Kaitlyn Mills single that drove in Tyra Bell.

Game Two Overview
Bethany fell 14-10 to Hope

The Bison scored first in the top of the second inning from a Kathleen Fuchs double to right center, scoring Gabby Capaldi. In the bottom of the second, the Bison gave up nine runs to the Flying Dutch. The Bison kept battling, adding five runs in the top of the fourth. A fielder's choice scored Erica Amoroso. Then Lauren Miachle walked which scored Tyra Bell. A Kayla Dinsmore double scored Miachle and Fuchs, cutting the Flying Dutch lead 9-6. Unfortunately, the Bison couldn't hold the Flying Dutch at nine runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Hope added four runs, extending the lead to 13-6. Bethany kept battling back, adding three runs in the fifth inning. Fran Capaldi doubled scoring Bell, then Janaya Hazlip scored on a wild pitch. At the end of five, the Bison trailed 14-9. Bethany's comeback fell short, 14-10 in the seventh inning.
