SB: Wise Sets Career Starts Record

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Bethany College softball team dropped the first game of its final non-conference doubleheader with Marietta and then had a darkness-induced tie.

GAME ONE: MARIETTA 8, BETHANY 5

Bethany allowed seven runs, only two of which were earned, over the first two innings and had its comeback attempt fall short in the loss.

Trailing 7-0, back-to-back bases loaded walks to senior Haley Eyler and freshman Bella Jouzapaitis brought home the first two Bethany runs. Jouzapaitis scored the third run on a single by freshman Caitlin O'Farrell in the sixth inning.

Bethany added two more runs in the seventh.

Freshman Olivia Kidd was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while sophomore Emma Jackson reached base three times via walk.

Junior Katelyn Ziems (5-3) allowed seven runs, two earned, on five hits over two innings. Sophomore Victoria Wehrberger allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts over four innings.

GAME TWO: BETHANY 4, MARIETTA 4 (7 innings)

Bethany scored three runs in the first inning and then tallied the tying run in the fourth inning as the second game ended in a darkness-induced tie.

Jackson was 1-for-2 with a run scored, a home run, two RBI, and a pair of walks, while graduate Destiny Goodnight, junior Brooke Markland, and Kidd all went 2-for-4. Kidd had the other Bethany RBI.

Fifth-year Josie Wise, who made her Bethany career record 92nd start, allowed four runs on just three hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Bethany (22-10-1) travels to Geneva 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for a pivotal Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader.
