Bison Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short

Montclair, NJ – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled to Montclair, NJ for the MSU Holiday Tournament, held by Montclair State University. The Bison faced the Hartwick Hawks in the consolation game Sunday afternoon. Despite the Bison fourth quarter comeback, the Green and White fell to the Hawks, 58-53. Courtney Walker led Bethany with 16 points and seven rebounds.

GAME OVERVIEW

Both teams battled in the opening quarter, with the Bison leading until the final minute of the first stanza. Hartwick closed out the quarter with the final seven points to take a 15-11 lead.

In the opening minutes of the second quarter, the Hawks extended their lead to 19-13, but the Bison kept battling to keep the score close. A Walker shot from behind the arc brought the Bison within one, and an Kelsie Meintel layup gave the Green and White the lead, 20-19, at the 4:49 mark. However, a pair of Hawk freebies from the charity stripe would knot the game at 23, with the Hawks regaining the lead again before the break.

Bethany and Hartwick battled in the third stanza with the Hawks maintaining the lead throughout the entire quarter. The Bison were held to just nine points in the third and only trailed by eight going into the final stanza.

An Allison Kuhn three began the final quarter, but the Hawks answered back with a quick layup. Abbey Dobbins laid one in and another Kuhn three cut the Hawks lead to 44-42 with eight minutes to go in the game. Unfortunately for the Bison, the Hawks hit three straight field goals to build the lead back up to 51-42. The Green and White continued to scrap back to within two with under four minutes to go, but were unable to close out the game.
