Hot Start Fizzles Out for WBB
PITTSBURGH, Pa – The Bethany Bison started off hot against a tough Chatham Cougar squad, but was unable to sustain that success through all four quarters. The Bison ended up being outscored 75-50, dropping their first game of the new year.
The Bethany offense came out the gate firing, putting up 20 points while going 8-11 from the floor in the first quarter. The Bison went on a 9-0 run to begin the game, which propelled them to a lead as time expired in the first. The offense ran through Kaedlee Potter, who scored eight of her 17 points in the opening 10 minutes. Bethany held a 20-14 lead entering the second.
A new quarter halted Bethany's offensive momentum and allowed Chatham to build. The Bison fought hard on defense, limiting the Cougar's shooting percentage to just 31.5% in the first half, but the offensive turnovers came back to hurt Bethany,
Despite the Bethany defense playing solid, Chatham took over the lead entering the locker room at half 32-29. The Bison were giving too many turnovers, allowing the Cougars to claw their way back into the game.
The same story continued for the final two quarters of the game. The Bison offense never was able to stack made field goals to build momentum, as they continued to give the ball away. Chatham winded down the clock in the fourth quarter en route to a 75-50 victory.
