Bison victorious over W&J, 3-1

BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 26) – The Bethany College volleyball team earned a 3-1 win (25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-15) over Washington & Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Tuesday night inside the Hummel Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bison held the Presidents to six kills and forced eight errors in their 25-19 first-set win.
  • W&J evening the score at 16-16 in the first-set, but Bethany picked up eight of the next 11 points to secure a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • The second set went back-and-forth, with both team's possessing the lead throughtout the set.
  • W&J pushed the set to set-point with a 24-23 lead and forced a Bethany timeout. 
  • The Bison defense forced an attack error to tie the set at 24-24. Junior Lindsey Llewellyn (Vermillion, Ohio/Norwalk St. Paul) earned a kill to give Bethany the lead and a service ace by Keili Terry (Leesburg, Va./Saint Johns) gave the home team a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • W&J extended the match to a fourth set with a 25-20 win in the third set. The set was knotted at 20-20 when the Presidents' rolled off five-consecutive points to earn the set win.
  • Bethany closed the door on W&J with a commanding 25-15 win in the fourth set. The Bison led 12-10 in the set, before they claimed 13 of the next 18 points to close out their fourth win in conference play this season.

MATCH NOTES

  • Sophomore Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) was the team's top all-around threat. She tallied a kill-dig double-double, as she matched a career-high with 17 kills and added 13 digs in the win.
  • Llewellyn and senior Sumayyah Muhammad (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) also finished with double-digit kills. Llewellyn established her own career-best with 12 kills, while Muhammad 11 for the Bison.
  • Freshman Jenna Scott (New Castle, Pa./Liberty Christian), the reigning PAC Rookie of the Week, guided the offense with 46 assists.
  • Junior Reilly Parker (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) was the Bison's top defender, ending the day with 27 digs, while Terry added 22 digs to her final line.
