HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany looked poised in the opening set of the match, claiming a 25-23 win to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Grove City led 14-10, but a Bison timeout refocused the team and helped them rally back to tie the set.
  • The first set would see five more tie scores, including a 21-21 tie, before the Bison rolled off four of the next six points to earn the set win.
  • Bethany fell behind by as many as 13 in the second set, before bowing out at 25-15 to even the score.
  • The third set did not go much better for the Bison, as 12 attack errors allowed Grove City to edge Bethany 25-23 in the third set for a 2-1 lead.
  • Bethany kept the third set close, but did not hold the lead past the 11-10 mark. The Bison closed the gap to one at 24-23 on a block by senior Sumayyah Muhammad (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) and freshman Jenna Scott (New Castle, Ind./Liberty Christian), but the Wolverines managed to win the set on an attack error by Bethany.
  • Bethany seemed to rebound in the fourth set, opening up the session with a 6-1 lead, but 10 of the next 11 points went to Grove City to flip the score at 11-7 in favor of the Wolverines.
  • The Green & White rallied back to take the lead at 15-13, but another slump allowed Grove City to reclaim the lead. The Wolverines took nine of the following 12 points to stake a 22-18 lead, before closing the set and the match with a 25-20 win.
