Baseball: Bison Swept by Lions in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Bethany College Baseball team faced Coast Guard late Sunday evening in a non-conference doubleheader at the Ripkan Experience in Myrtle Beach.

Game One Overview

Coast Guard 7, Bethany 6

Bethany scored first in the top of the second after Alec Berg doubled to right field scoring Stef Blackstone. The Bears knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning and took a 2-1 lead into the third inning. Coast Guard tacked on two more runs to lead 4-1. Bethany cut the lead in half after another Alec Berg double in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, the Bison battled to take a 6-4 lead. Bethany scored four runs to regain the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bears took advantage of bases loaded situation and earned the walk-off win.

Game Two Overview
Coast Guard 6, Bethany 4

Bethany struck first scoring two runs in the first inning. Cory Newman drove in Michael Whiteherse for the first run of the game. Moments later Cameron Schaub hit in Newman. Bison led 2-0 after one inning. In the second, Coast Guard cut the lead in half, scoring one run. Bethany built their lead back to two runs after Schaub drove in Whiteherse. In the fourth both teams scored while Bethany held a 4-2 lead after four innings. The Bears battled in the seventh inning to score and take over the lead. Bethany trailed in the bottom of the seventh and were unable to regain the lead back.

  • Alec Berg – In game one, he went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.
  • Cameron Schaub – He drove in two runs in game two.
  • Bethany was outscored 6-4 in the seventh inning.
