Baseball: Bison Split with Aggies

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Bethany College Baseball team faced Delaware Valley Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at the Ripkan Experience in Myrtle Beach.

Game One Overview

Bethany 6, Delaware Valley 5

Delaware Valley took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning. In the third the Bison got on the board after Quest Wilson homered to left field. Moments later, Kevin Pollock drove in Michael Whiteherse and Grant Shaffner singled to drive in Pollock. Bethany and Delaware Valley were deadlocked at 3-3 after the third inning. In the fourth, the Aggies regained the lead, but the Bison battled in the fourth to knot the game at 4-4. Pollock drove in Whiteherse to even the score. The Bison took the lead in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth. The Aggies attempted to comeback but the Bison were able to hold off the Aggies in the seventh.

Game Two Overview
Delaware Valley 12, Bethany 6

Bethany struck first with a Michael Whiteherse leadoff homerun. A few batters later, Luke Beatty flew out to centerfield to drive in Kevin Pollock. Bethany led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. Delaware Valley scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead heading into the second. In the second inning, the Aggies added two more runs to lead 7-2. Bethany scored a run in the third, to cut the deficit after a Dezmond Franklin single drove in Pollock. In the fourth, Bethany scored three runs to come within three of the Aggies. However, Delaware Valley added three runs of their own to build a six run lead.

  • Michael Whiteherse – 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game one. In game two, Whiteherse went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
  • Kevin Pollock – 2-for-4 with the one run scored and one RBI in game one. In game two, Pollock went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.
  • Grant Shaffner – 1-for-2 with two RBI's and one walk in game one.
