Baseball: Bison Top Barons Twice

Bethany, W.Va. – Bethany College baseball faced Franciscan University in a PAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Bethany Park.

Game One Overview

Bethany 6, Franciscan 2

The Bison crossed the plate first in the bottom of the first after Luke Beatty hit a sacrifice fly and scored Michael Whiteherse. In the third inning the Bison extended the lead to 2-0 after Cameron Schaub hit a sacrifice fly to score Kevin Pollock.

The Barons scored in the fourth inning. The Bison used a three run fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-1. In the sixth, the Barons earned a run, but the Bison added an insurance run in the sixth to take game one, 6-2.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 12, Franciscan 8

The Bison struck first to begin game two. Kevin Pollock drove in Michael Whiteherse and Luke Beatty hit a two-run homerun to give the Bison a 3-0 lead after one inning. The Barons used an explosive third inning to take a 6-3 lead. The Bison battled to cut the Barons lead.

In the bottom of the third, Cameron Schaub reached on an error to score Kevin Pollock. Moments later, Stef Blackstone doubled scoring Schaub. Bethany trailed 6-5 after three.

Colton Stoneman hit a solo homerun to tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning. The Bison earned the lead after Mike Hines hit a sacrifice fly to score Blackstone.

In the seventh, Bethany tacked on four runs to take a 11-6 lead. The Barons added two runs in the eighth but the Bison continued to rebound back. Luke Beatty drove in Whiteherse giving the Bison a 12-8 victory.

Bison Leaders

  • Mark Lavezza earned his fourth win of the season in game one. He pitched 7.0 innings with four hits, two ones (one earned) and struck out two.
  • Cameron Schaub led the Bison in game one with two RBIs. In game two, Schaub had two RBIs with two runs scored.
  • Luke Beatty led the Bison with three RBIs.
  • Kevin Pollock led the Bison with three runs scored.
  • Tyler McKee earned his first victory of the year, pitching 7.1 innings with 12 hits, 8 runs (two earned) and two strike outs.
  • Zach Nolf earned the save, pitching 1.2 innings with two hits and one strikeout.
