Baseball: Bison Back in the Win Column with Win over Barons

Steubenville, Ohio – The Bethany College baseball team earned a spot back in the win column after defeating the Franciscan University Barons in a PAC nine inning game at Vaccaro Field Tuesday evening.

Game Overview

Bethany 9, Franciscan 4

The Barons hit a three-run homerun in the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. The Bison got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning after Colton Stoneman scored on a wild pitch. In the fourth, the Bison added another run to cut the deficit to 3-2, after Cameron Schaub scored on a wild pitch. Bethany gained the lead in the fifth inning after Michael Whiteherse drove in Stef Blackstone and Cory Newman. Alec Berg singled to right field to drive in two more Bison runs. Bethany led 6-3. With a 6-4 lead in the final two innings, the Bison added two more runs to maintain the lead. 

Bison Leaders

  • Alec Berg went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
  • Derek Black and Cory Newman both had one RBI apiece.
  • JT Hubert earned his first win of his career throwing 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts.
  • Zach Nolf earned his fifth save of the season throwing 4.0 innings and five strikeouts.
