Women's Lacrosse: Pioneer's offense too much for Bison

Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

MARIETTA, Ohio – Looking to add on to their historic season, the Bethany women's lacrosse team hit the road to take on Marietta in non-conference action. The Pioneers offense brought their A-game as they cruised past the Green and White for an 18-8 victory.

The opening three minutes of the first quarter were a back-and-forth affair with both teams having opportunities to strike first, but the Pioneers broke the deadlock first before posting the first four goals of the game. With just under three minutes left in the opening frame, junior Alexa Taylor got the Bison on the board with her fourth goal of the season.

Marietta started the second quarter the same way they started the previous one with hitting the back of the net first. Bethany would respond with a pair of goals from Cierra Turner and Karley Trinidad. This goal marks the first of her career for Turner while Trinidad netted her fourth of the year. Despite getting within a pair of goals, it would be the closest the Green and White got to tying the game up as Marietta would go on to add four more before halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Bethany had their best quarter of the day posting four goals and going toe-to-toe with the Pioneers. Trinidad kept her strong performance going with her second goal of the game before Marietta answered right back with a trio of goals. Jada Carter scored her seventh of the season with just under eight minutes to go before the hosts once again got one back. The Bison would score two goals less than 40 seconds apart with less than three minutes to play from the sticks of Alexa Taylor and Cassidy Mailloux. Taylor's second of the game became her fifth of the season while Mailloux added her twelfth before Marietta would close out the action with a goal.

The final frame of action was similar to how the first 30 minutes went as Marietta dominated from start to finish. Mailloux scored goal number 13 on the year just 38 seconds into the action before the Pioneers would post the next four over the duration of the contest.

Sophomore goalie Leah Crihfield made nine saves despite suffering her first loss of the season. Bethany will look to bounce back on Tuesday on the road at Averett. Opening draw is set for 2 p.m.
