Men's Volleyball: Bison swept by Golden Tornadoes

BETHANY, W.Va.-  Bethany College men's volleyball hosted a familiar foe in the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. The Bison gave a valiant effort scoring in the double digits in every set. However, Geneva won three straight sets to take home the win. 

THE MATCHUPS 

Geneva 3, Bethany 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-14) 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Geneva jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first set. 
  • Bethany got on the board capitalizing on Geneva's defensive errors. After a few service errors for both teams, Tyler Johnson had the Bison's first kill of the game. They still trailed 8-5. 
  • Geneva then locked down and extended their lead to double digits 18-8. 
  • The Bison made a late push, but they dropped the first set 25-15. The Bison had the most success with James Lucht serving, as the Bison scored 33.33% of their points (five) in the first set with Lucht behind the line. 
  • The Bison lost the second set with nearly half their points coming from errors. They had twelve errors on the set and only three kills. Johnson did have the Bison's only block of the day in this set. 
  • The third set saw the Bison's most kills of any set played. They slammed down seven total points.  
  • Rylan Trapp served two aces for the Bison. He led the team in that category. 
  • Lucht finished the game hitting .238 on the floor. This was the first game since February 8th where a Bison finished the game with at least five kills and hit over .200.

  • Lucht led the Bison with seven kills. 
  • Ginez's six digs led the team. 
 

WHAT'S NEXT? 

The Bison will travel to East Mennonite University to compete in the EMU Royal Tournament the weekend of February 23. They will begin on Friday playing East Mennonite. On Saturday, they are set to battle Messiah and Southern Virginia.
