Bio

  • Sansom enters his first year as the Director of Athletics in 2022-23. 

  • Served six seasons as the head coach of the women's basketball program
  • Was the 10th coach in program history
  • In 2021-22 the Bison finished the season 15-11 (9-8 PAC). The 15 wins marks the most wins in the Sansom era and the first time since 2011-12.
  • Has led the Bison to six consecutive appearances in the PAC conference tournament
  • Finished 5-6 (4-5 PAC) in 2020-21 *Shortened season due to COVID-19
  • Fell in the quarterfinals to undefeated Washington & Jefferson Presidents
  • Makenzee Mason named PAC Newcomer of the Year (2020-21)
  • In 2018-19 season, the Bison finished over .500 in the regular season for the first time since the 2011-12 season
  • Notched the program’s first PAC Tournament victory since 2012
  • Defeated Washington and Jefferson and Waynesburg in the same season for the first-time since 2010-11.
  • Wrapped up the 2016-17 season finishing 12-14 overall, including a 10-8 record and fifth place finish in the PAC
  • Served as the Chair of the Staff Council (2020-21) 
  • Served as the Travel Coordinator for Athletics (2017-21)
  • Served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Recruiting and Retention (2022)

  • Spent one season as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson, a NCAA Division I member of the Northeast Conference
  • Sansom helped the Knights to the quarterfinals of the NEC Championship Tournament, where the team fell to eventual conference champion and NCAA Tournament qualifier, Robert Morris University.
  • Along with the NEC Tournament trip, Sansom also helped coach three All-NEC selections, including first-team honoree Erika Livermore, second-team selection Kelsey Cruz and NEC All-Rookie Team honoree Madelynn Comly.
  • Spent four years (2011-12 through 2014-15) at Montclair State University
  • Assisted in Montclair State posting a total record of 107-14, including a 58-6 mark in conference play; In 121 total games, the Red Hawks posted a winning percentage of .884 with Sansom serving as an assistant to Head Coach Karin Harvey
  • The Red Hawks won three NJAC titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament “Sweet 16”, “Elite 8” and “Final Four” in consecutive seasons. In 2015, Montclair finished third in the Nation, defeating Tufts University, 56-48, in the consolation game
  • Coached 12 All-NJAC selections, including seven first-team honorees. He also helped his athletes to eight D3Hoops.com All-Region picks, as well as four D3Hoops.com and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American selections
  • One of the top players in Montclair State history, Melissa Tobie, played all four years under the tutelage of Sansom. Tobie was a three-time NJAC Player of the Year, recorded over 2,000 career points while also tallying 1,000 career rebounds. In four seasons with Sansom, Tobie was a three-time All-American selection, as well as being named a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree

  • Graduated from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford where he earned his bachelor of science degree in Sport and Recreation Management (’08)
  • Graduated from California University of Pennsylvania where he earned his masters of science in Sport Management Studies; Intercollegiate Athletic Administration (’11)
  • Brian lives in Bethany, W.Va with his wife, Erikka, the Director of Athletic Communications at Bethany. They have a son named Lucan.
