Daugherty, Reynolds sweep weekly awards in PAC and ECAC

DANBURY, Conn. (Jan. 23) – The Bethany College women's basketball team swept the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) weekly awards, as senior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) was named the ECAC & PAC Player of the Week and freshman Makayla Reynolds (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) was tabbed the ECAC & PAC Rookie of the Week announced the organizations Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Daugherty and Reynolds helped the Bison defeat Chatham and Waynesburg last week to improve to 8-9 overall, 5-5 in the PAC.

Daugherty posted averages of 22.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game during Bethany's 2-0 week. She knocked down 58.1 percent (18-of-31) of her attempts from the floor and went 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe. In Saturday's win over Waynesburg, Daugherty finished 13-of-19 from the field and registered career highs in points (32), rebounds (16) and steals (5) while playing all 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, Reynolds averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting at a 73.7 percent (14-of-19) clip to earn rookie of the week laurels. She finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with seven boards in last Wednesday's league win at Chatham. The Buckhannon native closed the week with 10 points and four rebounds in the team's win over Waynesburg.

The weekly honor is the second this season for Daugherty, who was named the PAC Player of the Week in December. She currently ranks second in the league with 18.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game and sits fourth all-time in school history with 1,557 points and third all-time with 885 rebounds. 

Bethany travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 24 to take on Geneva (4-13, 1-9 PAC) at 5:30 p.m.
