Track and Field: Bison Set to Compete at PAC Indoor Championships
Greenville, Pa. – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 24 at Youngstown State University. The PAC released their indoor track and field pre-championships coaches' poll Tuesday afternoon.
The Bethany College Indoor Track and Field teams were tabbed to finish 9th (men) and 10th (women) leading into the PAC Championship events.
Due to the extraordinary disruptions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, last year's indoor championships were canceled. The most recent indoor championships were contested February 27, 2020 at YSU's WATTS.
"I'm just excited like the athletes to be able to be back competing in the indoor arenas. With it being 2 years since we last competed in our Indoor Championships, to get to compete again is as big an accomplishment as anything" said head coach Andy Upton.
Upton is entering his 18th season with the Bison and returns some key members in this season's championships.
"After graduating some very talented athletes over the last couple years since our last indoor season, I'm excited and curious to see who is going to make a name for themselves this year" said Upton. "I feel we have some talent in every event group this year and the potential to be great exists all across the team. It has been a fun group to coach so far and I'm excited to see how the next few weeks play out."
Senior Keyohn Thompson has anchored the Bison this season running in the 60m and 200m. He recently set the school record for the 55m finishing in 6.65. The record was previously held by Anthony Thompson ('16).
Junior Qujuan McGlothin will be competing in the 200 and 400 this season.
In the field events, Joe Pinn and Edmund Aggrey both look to place at the top in long jump. Pinn will also compete in the triple jump and Aggrey in the high jump.
On the female side, Kelly Hofmann, Danielle Williams and Aliza Clark are projected to place in their respective events. Hofmann will compete in the 200m and 400m. Williams is expected to run the 800m and Mile, while Clark is running in the 60m Hurdles.
In the field, Lynn Burton looks to place in the shot put. This season she has averaged a 10.16m mark.
Field events will begin at 1 p.m. Track events will get underway at approximately 3 p.m.
Admission to PAC Championship events is $5 for adults and $2 for students. There will also be a $5 parking fee for spectators.
