Kassidy Montondo Named Inaugural Acrobatics & Tumbling Head Coach

BETHANY, W.Va. – Kassidy Montondo has been tabbed as the first head coach of Bethany College acrobatics & tumbling, Director of Athletics Brian Sansom announced on Monday (July 3).

Montondo comes to Bethany after a short stint at West Virginia Wesleyan.

"After a national search, Kassidy was a clear standout and we are excited for her to join our Bison family," says Sansom. "Kassidy's passion, knowledge of sport, and recruiting experience will serve her well as she builds our A&T program. Her accolades as a student-athlete speak for themselves and her familiarity to the area gives her a head start on where to find the best local talent and future Bison."

A former acrobatics & tumbling athlete at Davis & Elkins and assistant coach at West Liberty, Montondo has already forged strong relationships within the Ohio Valley and state of West Virginia.

"I am so very excited to be building this program with the support of President Dr. Jamie Caridi and Director of Athletics Brian Sansom," says Montondo. "Being an inaugural team member at my alma mater and now starting my own inaugural team is a full circle moment. I am so lucky to provide opportunities for young women in athletics and to help them grow as individuals all while making history at Bethany College."

Montondo completed a graduate assistantship at West Liberty, where she assisted with the Hilltopper acrobatics & tumbling team while she worked on her master's degree in clinical psychology.

A Watertown, N.Y., native, Montondo's background includes participating in competitive cheerleading at CNY Storm of Syracuse during high school. She competed as an acrobatics & tumbling athlete at Davis & Elkins as a four-year starter. She was awarded All-Mountain East Conference Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2019. While at D&E, Montondo competed in a variety of events including compulsory acro, pyramid and tumbling. She specialized in toss and qualified for the MEC Championship in 2019 and 2021.

Montondo excelled in the classroom at D&E and was recognized on the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Academic Honor Roll in 2019 and 2021. She was named to the MEC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times as a Senator. Montondo earned President's List and Dean's List recognition throughout her academic career at D&E. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and human services.

Montondo was selected from a national search to build the program from the ground up and will start on Monday, July 3.
