Sean Regan to Step Down as Men's Soccer Head Coach

Bethany, W. Va- Bethany men's head soccer coach Sean Regan has announced that he is stepping down from his position as Bethany College head soccer coach to accept the position as Head Men's Soccer Coach at West Liberty University.

Regan came to Bethany 10 years ago after coaching at rival Washington & Jefferson. Regan is the third coach in Bison history and has compiled a 61-118-12 record. In his tenure as the Bison leader, the green and white made PAC appearances in 2010, 2011, and 2016, and he earned PAC Coach of the Year in 2011.

"As an institution it is sad to see Coach Regan go but we wish him the best at his next stop," said Director of Athletics Steve Thompson. "Sean has been a part of the Bethany Soccer Family since he was a child. His service and dedication to our student-athletes will be greatly missed as we continue to grow the Bethany Bison Brand."

Regan has coached 21 student-athletes that have earn All-PAC honors including four-year standout Arkangelo James (2010-13). James was named an All-PAC selection in all four seasons he played, including PAC Player of the Year in both his junior and senior seasons (2012 & 2013). He also was named ECAC Division III South Region Offensive Player of the Year and NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection in his final season.

The Regan name is a familiar one in Bison soccer history. His father, Jim, who coached Sean at Wheeling Jesuit, was inducted into the Bethany Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 for his achievements on the soccer field. The elder Regan was a two-time First Team All-PAC selection and helped guide BC to four conference titles during his playing career. He has spent over 30 years as the head coach at Wheeling Jesuit and accumulated over 370 victories.

A national search for Regan's replacement will begin immediately.

Bethany College men's soccer celebrated 50 years this past season and is the winningest team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and at Bethany College. In 1994, Bethany held on to defeat Johns Hopkins by the score of 1-0 to claim the NCAA Men's Soccer Division III Championship. In 2004, the 1994 team was inducted into the Bethany College Athletic Hall of Fame. Along with the 1994 team, 19 men's soccer players have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
