Bison Softball's Cassie Weiss Named PAC Pitcher of the Week

April 25 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – After leading the Bethany College softball team to a perfect, 6-0, record against Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents last week, sophomore ace Cassie Weiss (Washington, Pa./McGuffey) has been named the PAC Pitcher of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday.

The sophomore pitcher appeared in five games for the Bison last week while making three starts as the Bison earned doubleheader sweeps of Thiel College, Grove City and Geneva to improve to third in the conference standings (10-4).

Weiss threw 26.0 total innings, earning three, complete-game performances while posting a record of 4-0 over the six-game stretch. She allowed just ten hits throughout the week, striking out a total of 39 batters to give her a PAC leading 146 on the season.

Over the span of two starts in games against Grove City and Geneva, Weiss threw 13-consecutive scoreless innings, including throwing a one-hit shutout against the Wolverines. In that game, Weiss surrendered just two baserunners (one via error) while striking out eight.

Weiss then came out against the Golden Tornadoes on Saturday and held a perfect game through six innings before giving up a hit in the top of the seventh. More impressively, the lone hit in the Grove City outing was surrendered to the game's first batter, meaning that Weiss did not allow a hit in 13-straight frames.

The sophomore has been on a tare in Bethany's last 10 games. Helping the Bison to a 9-1 record, Weiss is holding opposing batters to a .117 batting average and has an ERA of 0.56. In that same stretch she has tallied a 6-0 mark, allowing just 15 hits and three earned runs while striking out 54 in 37.1 innings.

Weiss and the Bison will be back in action on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at Otterbein. The Green & White will then host Thomas More College on Thursday (3:30 PM), before traveling to Saint Vincent on Saturday to close out the regular season.
