Bison Volleyball Takes Two in Mount Union Tournament

Sept. 2 – Alliance, Ohio – The Bethany women's volleyball team swept their two matches in the first day of the Mount Union Tournament. They defeated Grove City 3-1 in the first match and then rallied back to defeat John Carroll 3-2 after dropping the first two sets.

With John Carroll winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18, respectively, Bethany charged back in the third set to win 27-25. 

At one point in the third set, the Bison led 14-9, before JCU tied it up at 14. However, Bethany stayed on top after that point with the deficit never being larger than three points. 

Half way through the fourth set, the score was 11-9 in Bethany's favor before the Bison ripped off a 9-4 run to take charge of the set and finished it off with a score of 25-19.

In the finale, Bethany led the entire set, capturing the match victory, 15-12,

For the Bison, Dakota and Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum) led the team with 15 kills with Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) tallying 11. Senior Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence Central) registered 23 assists.

On defense, Reilly Parker (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led the way with 16 digs while Powell and Dakota McKenzie finished with 12 digs a piece. 

With the wins, the Bison start the season 2-0. They return to action Saturday, Sept. 3 at the tournament where they take on Hope College at 10a.m. They finish the weekend with a match against Wittenberg at noon.
