Bethany sweeps Waynesburg, 3-0

Sept. 29 - WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Bison swept Waynesburg 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-11) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Thursday night.

The Bethany College volleyball team improves to 11-10 overall, 6-2 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-9 in league play, 1-15 overall.

Senior Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the Bison with nine kills, Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) paced her sister with eight kills and freshman Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) turned in a balanced effort of seven kills and eight digs in the victory.

Senior Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) helped lead the offense with 29 assists, while freshman Maggie Merren (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) tallied 16 digs to head the team's defensive efforts.

After exchanging points to start the match, the Bison claimed a trio of points to take a 10-7 lead and force a Yellow Jacket timeout. Waynesburg rallied back to tie the set twice and eventually took a 22-21 lead following a 7-1 spurt. Bethany called its own timeout and recovered to collect four of the next five points to claim the set.

The Bison controlled the match following its narrow first set win. The Green and White jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the set and led by at least three points until the Yellow Jackets pulled within two at 22-20, but a pair of kills by Dylana McKenzie and an ace from Sparks gave the Bison a 2-0 lead in the match.

Bethany collected the sweep with a dominant 25-11 win in the third set. The Bison led 9-7 before closing out the match on a 16-4 run to win the contest.

The Bison return to action tomorrow, Friday, September 30 when they head to Huntington, Pennsylvania to take on Juniata at 7 p.m.
