Bison Sweep Saint Vincent 3-0 in PAC Match

Sept. 16 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany volleyball team swept Saint Vincent 3-0 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Wednesday.

Midway through the first set, the teams were tied at 11. From there Bethany would jump out to a 17-14 lead before an SVC timeout. Saint Vincent would eventually work their way back to a 17 all tie.

Bethany would regain the lead, but the visitors would stay within two points until an Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence Central) service ace to put Bethany up 22-18 forced SVC to call another timeout.

After the break, the hosts would keep at least a two point advantage and end the match on a kill by Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) to capture the first set 25-22.

The Bison captured the second set handily, 25-16. Early on though, the match was close. At an 8-8 tie, Bethany would go on a 9-2 run to take the 17-10 lead to force a Saint Vincent timeout. Six points would be the closest SVC got for the rest of the set.

Early in the third and final set, both teams were neck-and-neck. With the game tied at 8-8, the Bearcats rallied off three straight points to take the 11-8 lead. After an SVC service error, the visitors called a timeout.

Moments later, Bethany led 14-11 where they would go on a 5-1 run led by the serving of Summayah Muhammad (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) to jump ahead 19-12.

After another SVC timeout, Bethany would rally off five more points to eventually go up 24-14. From here, the Bearcats clawed back.

With Nina Beatrice serving for SVC, she tallied two service aces among a six point stretch to get them back within four before a service error would end that set and match at 25-20.

With the sweep, Bethany improves to 7-6 (4-1, PAC) while Saint Vincent drops to 7-8 (2-2, PAC). The Bison have now won five of their last seven matches. This weekend, they travel to Carnegie Mellon for a tournament where they will play the host Tartans and John Carroll on Friday along with Randolph-Macon and Arcadia on Saturday.
