Bethany Cancels 2016 Field Hockey Season

BETHANY, W.Va. - Bethany College Director of Athletics Brian Rose announced Friday that the College has canceled the 2016 field hockey season.

The decision was largely based on the depletion of the field hockey roster following the 2015-16 year due to graduation. Those losses, coupled with low recruiting numbers, left the program without enough players to field a full team for the 2016 season.

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make because the field hockey program has a history at Bethany dating back to the 1970's," said Rose. "However, as we surveyed the situation for the 2016 season, we don't have the roster numbers to field a full team, so we've made the decision to cancel the season.

I know the returning players are disappointed by this situation and I want to thank them for their hard work in representing Bethany College and the field hockey program."
