Bison Field Hockey Falls Short Against Randolph-Macon

Sept. 6 – BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College field hockey team was defeated 1-0 by Randolph-Macon College on Sunday morning.

With both Bethany (2-1) and Randolph-Macon (2-1) coming off big wins at Bison Stadium earlier in the weekend, the stage was set for a tough battle.

The Bison defense managed to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board in the first half, even while Randolph-Macon tallied six penalty corners. Bethany keeper Courtney Snyder (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) was solid with three saves on five shots in the frame.

Senior Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) led the offense early with all four Bethany shots in the opening half. However, both team failed to tally a goal and the game remained 0-0.

The Yellow Jackets struck early in the second half as Victoria Cappadora scored in the 49th minute to take the 1-0 lead.

Bethany showed their resiliency and immediately went on the attack. The Bison continued to pour shots on net, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 8-4 in the second half. Bethany totaled eight penalty corners in the half.

When the game finally came to an end, it was Randolph-Macon's goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley that proved to be the difference. She kept the Bison at bay in the second-frame, making six saves in the final 35 minutes to keep Bethany off the scoreboard.

Snyder finished the game with five saves, and Hunter Webster (Newark, Del./Newark) tallied a defensive save in the contest.

Senior T.J. Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) totaled three shots, all of them coming on goal, while junior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) notched two shots on goal.

Bethany will return to the field on Wednesday, September 9th when they travel to Washington, Pa. to take on Washington & Jefferson. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
