Barrus Impresses in Inaugural Competition

TIFFIN, Oh- The Women's Wrestling Team competed in their first competition in Bethany College history. The Bison entered four wrestlers in their inaugural competition:

Azlyn Cates, Kasey Kophazy, Jasmine Craddock, Sophie Diaz, and Trinity Barrus.

The four freshmen had a tough slate ahead of them in the Tiffin Open, as established NAIA and DII competition stood before them.

Bethany's 160 pounder bursted onto the scene. Barrus walked out of the gym wearing a silver medal which she earned from pinning her way to the finals. Match one for the medalist was a thriller as she overcame a 5-0 deficit with a bodylock pin victory over a former Ironman Champion.

In the finals, Barrus ran into a former member of the USA Junior National Team, Leyna Rumpler from Baldwin Wallace. The Bison wrestled tough, at one point working towards a fall on the former national team member. However, Barrus wasn't able to secure the fall and the Yellow Jacket came back for a victory. Still, an impressive performance for the Bison.

Cates and Craddock both earned a fall on the consolation side of the bracket.

The Bison will enter one more tournament before Thanksgiving. They're set to wrestle in the Baldwin Wallace Open Sunday, November 24th. First whistle will blow at 10 a.m.
