Wrestling Sweeps Tri-Meet
WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Bison traveled to a familiar President Athletics Conference school in Waynesburg to compete in a tri-meet between the Yellow Jackets, Bethany, and the Buffalo State Bengals. The Bison cruised to a 2-0 day, winning both dual meets comfortably.
Bethany first tackled Buffalo State. The Bison entered the halfway point being tied at 14, but finished the dual strong scoring 20 consecutive points. Trinity Barrus earned a forfeit at 160 while 145 Jasmine Craddock, 180 Shanielah Kirk, and 207 Sophie Diaz all earned falls.
The Bison were able to take a short break, but kept energy and momentum high entering the next match against Waynesburg. Bonus points were plentiful as the Bison picked up a 40-10 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Entering the 207 bout against Waynesburg, the Bison were carrying a pin streak. Of the seven matches wrestled from the backend of Buffalo State to the final match of the evening, the Bison pinned their opponents in every match.
Athletes with a pin on the day include 124 Adriana Gilliam, 138 Kasey Kophazy, 145 Craddock (two), 180 Kirk (two), and 207 Diaz.
103 Mary Tracey moved to 4-0 on the season with two wins today. 117 Angelina Watson picked up multiple wins, including a 10-0 technical superiority against her Buffalo State opponent.
Two Bison made their first appearances in a singlet at the competition. 131 Monica Bird was able to score in her loss against her Buffalo State opponent. 117 Brionna Bash received a forfeit victory at the 124 pound weight class.
Bethany will have a few days to celebrate before heading to Mount Union for the Raider Open. The tournament will be an individual event with wrestling beginning sometime in the morning. Time to be announced on social media closer to the event.
