Football: Strong Second Half Lifts Presidents over Bison

Washington, Pa. – The Bethany College football team (0-3, 0-2) faced the 12th ranked Washington & Jefferson Presidents in a PAC contest inside Cameron Stadium Saturday evening. The Presidents used a strong second half to defeat the Bison 28-3.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bison held their opponent scoreless in the first quarter
  • The Presidents scored at the 9:13 mark in the second quarter in four plays (39-yards)
  • Bethany led the second half with a successful onside kick recovery. The Bison used the momentum to drive 46-yards in 11 plays which led to a 27-yard field goal off the foot of senior kicker Sean Cole
  • The Bison defense began to wear after the Presidents scored 14 points in the third quarter taking a 21-3 lead heading into the fourth
  • The Presidents added seven points in the fourth sealing the PAC win

BY THE NUMBERS

10 – The Bison had ten penalties on the night, four coming in the first drive

4th Down – Bethany was a perfect 2-for-2 on fourth downs tonight while hold the Presidents 0-for-2 on fourth down attempts

213- The Bison out passed the Presidents with 213 passing yards to 167

242-14 – The dominant running game and tough defense by the Presidents crumbled the Bison defense and running game. The Presidents ran for 242 yards while the Bison were held to just 14 yards

5 – The Bison had five turnovers on the night that helped lead to Presidents' points

14 – Rondell Lewis continues to be a force on the Bison defense registering 14 tackles (10 solo)

3 – The Bison had three tackles for a loss tonight led by Jan Patrik Schorn's sack for a loss of nine yards

The Bison return to the turf on Saturday, September 25 when they host the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes in their home opener on the newly renovated turf at Bison Stadium at 7 pm.
