Football: Bethany Dedicates Ault Field and Cruise in Win Over Tomcats on Homecoming

Bethany, W.Va. – As a part of homecoming festivities, Bethany College dedicated the new synthetic turf at Bison Stadium in honor of longtime coach Don Ault prior to Saturday's football game against Thiel.

Ault's daughter, Debbie Ault, cut the ribbon to christen the Coach Don Ault Athletic Field to open the Bison football game against Thiel College.

Ault, who joined the Bison as an assistant to hall of fame coach Bob Goin in 1969 and became head coach four years later, twice led the Bison to Presidents' Athletic Conference championships. His 1980 squad became the first Bethany team to advance to the NCAA III playoffs, finishing the season unbeaten and united.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Bison scored the first seven points on the day after Brennan Secrist hauled in a 61-yard touchdown pass from Dom Salinetro
  • The Bison led 7-0 at the half
  • A Colton Stoneman 3-yard run to open the third quarter gave the Bison a 14-0 lead
  • Five seconds into the fourth quarter, Trevon Dean reeled in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Salinetro
  • Thiel landed on the board after a blocked punt return for a touchdown
  • Bethany sealed the win after McGlothin picked off the Tomcat quarterback and returned it for a 30-yard touchdown

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Salinetro threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns
  • Stoneman led all rushers with 55 yards and one touchdown
  • Secrist hauled in 111 yards and one touchdown
  • Shawn Wheeler and Qujuan McGlothin both had interceptions
  • Defensivley the Bison had 8 sacks and 13 tackles for a loss
  • Kejon Fraley led the Bison with 3.5 sacks for 23-yards
