Men's Basketball: Yellow Jackets snap Bison win streak with late comeback

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Bethany College men's basketball team snapped a three game winning-streak after the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets battled back to defeat the Bison, 72-69.

GAME FLOW/HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bison jumped out to an early 6-2 lead after a pair of Cole Dailey layups and a Will Brooks layup. Bethany held a narrow 13-12 lead with under 11 minutes to go in the half. The Bison used an 8-3 run to extend their lead to 21-16.
  • After a few deadlocks and lead changes in the final minutes of the half, Waynesburg would outscore the Bison 11-8 to take a 34-31 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Bison opened the second half on a 12-4 run to take a 43-38 lead over the Yellow Jackets. The scoring run was fueled by Tony Fox with seven of the twelve points. Bethany would hold the lead through the majority of the second half.
  • With under five minutes to go, the Bison led by 10, 67-57. The Yellow Jackets began to chip away at the Bison's lead. Over the next three minutes, the Yellow Jackets would go on a 12-2 run and knot the game at 69-69.
  • Bethany would have a chance to go to the foul line on two separate occasions and would miss all three attempts. The Yellow Jackets would capitalize hitting 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Cole Dailey led the Bison with 20 points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
  • Tony Fox added 14 points with five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
  • Troy Hixson had 12 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Waynesburg held the slight advantage in shooting percentage from the field, 44.8 percent to Bethany's 44.4 percent.
  • The Bison hit nine three's while holding the Yellow Jackets to four.
  • The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Bison, 39-33 with 18 second chance points.
  • The Bison totaled 10 steals.
