Bison Men’s Track and Field tabbed to finish 5th in Preseason Poll

Bethany, WV (BethanyBison.com) – The Bethany College Men's indoor track and field team was chosen to finish 5th in the President's Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason poll Friday afternoon.


Geneva nabbed the top pick in this year's poll. Washington & Jefferson, Grove City, Westminster, and Bethany round out the top five.

The Bison indoor track and field team will be surrounded by four athletes chosen on the PAC's Athletes to Watch List. Seniors Bryon Mayers (Brownsville, Pa /Brownsville) and Marshall Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa/ Penn Hills), and sophomores Michael Speedy (Irondale, Ohio), and Andrew Weiss (Washington, Pa/ The Linsly School- W.V.) look to lead the Bison this year.


In his junior year Mayers finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85 seconds to guarantee a spot in the ECAC Championships. At, ECAC's Mayers competed in the 200-meter dash and finished 13th overall with a time of 23 seconds. He also added a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line at a new personal best, 7.18 seconds. In 2017 and 2016, Mayers finished an 8th place finish in the 200-meter PAC Championships.


After being named to the USTFCCA All-Region, Murray looks to continue from his strong season last year into this year. With a time of one minute, 57.17 seconds, Murray earned a second place finish in the 800-meter run. He also collected a second-place finish at the PAC Championships in the 800-meter dash with a time of one minute, 55.75 seconds last year. Murray was a 2nd place finisher in the 800-meter dash and landed in 15th for the high jump in 2017 at the PAC Championships. As a sophomore, Murray was a PAC Indoor Champion in the 4 x 400-meter relay, and placed 4th in the 800-meter dash.


Last season freshmen, Speedy grabbed first place in the long jump with a personal-record of 6.83 meters (22 feet, five inches).

The Bison open up the indoor season January 19, at the Marietta-Pioneer Open.
