Barrus, Kophazy Named NWCA Scholar AAs
MANHEIM, Pa. - Two Bison were named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All Americans for the 2024-25 season. Trinity Barrus and Kasey Kophazy were elected based off of their outstanding efforts in the classroom.
"The NWCA is proud to honor these outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellence on the mat and in the classroom as well," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.
The criteria for being elected is as follows:
- A top eight placer at nationals and at least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA
- Competed in a minimum of 15 matches that are recorded in TRACKWRESTLING and has at least a 3.5 Cumulative GPA
- Was a national qualifier and has at least a 3.25 Cumulative GPA
Both freshman smashed their respective marks. Barrus did not need the extra assistance from being a national qualifier, as she earned a perfect 4.0 in her first semester in college. Kophazy earned well above a 3.5 GPA while wrestling the entire season for the Bison.
"Becoming an Academic All-American is no small feat—it requires the same grit, discipline, and determination that wrestling demands. These young women have proven that excellence isn't confined to the mat; it extends into the classroom as well. Their hard work and dedication set a powerful example for our program," said Head Coach Pete Di Pol.
Barrus is set to compete in the 2025 United States Marine Core Women's National Championships April 4th-6th. More details to be announced closer to the date of competition.
