Men's Soccer: Bethany Earns 31st PAC Title

Steubenville, Ohio – Fifth-seeded Bethany College defeated two-seeded Franciscan Barons, 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship title match Saturday evening.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Modou Faye scored in the 22nd minute off of a penalty kick to give the Bison a 1-0 lead.
  • Bethany kept momentum going after Valentin Ursino hit back of the net at the 23:45 mark off of a Sheldon Christian assist.
  • Franciscan battled and held possession in Bison territory for majority of the second half. The Barons scored in the 58th minute to cut the Bison lead to one goal.
  • In the 78th minute the Bison regained momentum after Faye hit the back of the net for the second time in the match.

MATCH NOTES

  • The Bison won the last eight of the last nine matches.
  • With tonight's victory, the Men's Soccer team has won their first PAC Championship in 20 years (2001).
  • The Bison have a league-best 31 PAC titles.
  • Modou Faye was named the championship tournament's Most Outstanding Player, while Adis Salihovic and Sebastian Arrocain earned All-Tournament Honors.
  • Faye leads the Bison with eight goals and has three assists this season.

WHAT'S NEXT?

As this year's tournament winner, Bethany will receive the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The PAC is one of 43 conferences granted automatic qualification (Pool A) to the Division III Championship. Selections for the 64-team Division III Championship will be announced Monday, Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. First and second round matchups are scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Nov. 12-14.
