Baseball: Bethany swept by Clark

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Bethany College baseball team opened up the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in a doubleheader against Clark University.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Clark 8, Bethany 4  

Records:

  • Clark (4-0)
  • Bethany (1-3)  

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)

  • Clark jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Bison quickly rebounded after Izek Baldwin singled to drive in Hunter Rhoades to cut the deficit to two.
  • Clark responded with a run in the bottom of the second to build the lead back to three.
  • In the third, the Bison once again responded. This time it was with one swing off the bat of Josh Speaker. Speaker cranked a three-run homerun to right field deadlocking the game at 4-4.
  • Unfortunately for the Bison, they wouldn't score another run. Clark would take the lead for good off a homerun of their own in the third. They added three more runs in the sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)

  • Clark opened up game two with a seven run second inning to take a commanding lead over the Bison.
  • Josh Speaker singled in the third to drive in Nick Roell to put the Bison on the board.
  • In the fourth and the fifth, Clark added two runs to take a 10-1 lead over Bethany.
  • In the bottom of the fifth Devin Toothman scored on a wild pitch.
  • Clark added two more runs in the sixth to take a 12-2 lead.
