Baseball: McKee Goes Yard, Bison Swept by Wolverines

Washington, Pa- Bethany traveled to a neutral site to take on Grove City in a Presidents Athletic Conference double header. Although the Bison were playing in Ross Memorial Park, they were the home team against the Wolverines. 


THE BASICS

Final Scores:

Game One: Grove City 8, Bethany 3

Game Two: Saint Vincent 16, Bethany 2

Records:

  • Grove City (15-9), (6-3 PAC)

  • Bethany (8-19), (1-8 PAC)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE) 

  • Each team hit a solo shot in the second inning to keep the game tied. Bethany's came from the bat of Tyler McKee. He took an outside fastball the other way to give the Bison their first run of the game.

  • The Wolverines scored six in the top of the fifth. Only half of the runs were earned. Eventually the Bethany bullpen ended the inning, but not before Grove CIty took a commanding 7-1 lead. 

  • Grove City was able to get one more in the seventh, forcing a big offensive inning in the bottom of the ninth. Bethany strung together a few runs with two outs. Nick Roell and Josh Speaker both had an RBI single. There just weren't enough outs left in the game for the Bison as they dropped game one to the Wolverines.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME ONE: 

  • McKee hit a solo home run

  • Speaker was 2-5 with an RBI. His RBI single in the ninth was his 100th career NCAA hit.

  • Roell had an RBI single and a run scored. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO): 

  • The Bison gave up 16 runs in game two. Bethany only gave up nine hits. It was free passes in combination with six errors that caused the game to get out of hand.

  • The offense scored a pair of runs in the fourth. McKee and Izek Baldwin were able to find some grass with runners on to each collect an RBI single.

  • The runs kept coming in for the Wolverines who won game two in only seven complete innings. 

BISON LEADERS IN GAME TWO:

  • McKee was 1-1 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored

  • Baldwin was 1-2 with an RBI single.

 

What's Next

The Bison will be the home team against Chatham on Wednesday, April 17th. Due to flooding to the field in Bethany Park, the game will be played at West Liberty University starting at 1 PM.
