Baseball: Bison Swept by Cougars

West Liberty W.Va. - Bethany traveled to West Liberty University to take on the Chatham Cougars. The Bison were swept in their Presidents Athletic Conference neutral site home games.

THE BASICS

Final Scores:

Game One: Chatham 11, Bethany 5

Game Two: Chatham 13, Bethany 2 (seven innings)

Records:

  • Chatham (12-15, 4-7 PAC)

  • Bethany (8-21, 1-11 PAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)

  • Bethany looked like they were going to begin flourishing on offense in the second inning when Izek Baldwin stroked a two RBI double. The Bison had opportunities throughout the rest of the game, but ended up leaving 13 runners on base in game one.

  • The Bison gave up all 11 of their runs in the first six innings. The five errors did not help the pitching efforts as the Bison gave up four unearned runs. All errors were with less than two outs, meaning all unearned runs were scored on the errors themselves rather than subsequent hits later in the inning.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME ONE:

  • Baldwin was 2-5 with a pair of singles and two RBI.

  • Nick Roell had the only XBH with a double.

  • Hunter Rhodes and Tyler McKee had multi-hit games. McKee was 2-3 with a walk and a run scored. Rhodes had an identical line besides scoring one more run.

  • Mark Lavezza and Kyle D'Angela combined for three scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):

  • Defensive woes continued in game two when the Bison had seven errors that contributed to the 13 runs given up.

  • Bethany wasn't able to pick up the extra slack with the bat. The Bison were able to work eight walks and added two singles. The offense struggled to push baserunners home scoring two runs without earning an RBI.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME TWO:

  • Grant Schaffner reached base safely three times in four plate appearances via walk.

  • Josh Speaker was the only Bison to reach base multiple times while scoring a base hit. He was 1-3 with a walk.

  • Mike Hines hit a double.
