Men's Soccer: #5 Bison Advance in PK Shootout Over #1 Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. – #5 Bethany College battled #1 Grove City in the Presidents' Athletic Conference semifinal round on Don Lyle Field Wednesday evening. It was a match that was going to go down to the wire from the beginning. The Bison and Wolverines were knotted at 3-3 after regulation and overtime, the Bison converted four penalty kicks to advance past the Wolverines, 4-1 in the shootout.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Modou Faye put the Bison on the board first in the ninth minute of the match off of an assist from Jahzinho O'Garro.
  • The Wolverines knotted the match at 1-1 in the 16th minute.
  • Bethany held a 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break. Jahzinho O'Garro found the lower left corner in the 29th minute to give the Bison the lead.
  • The second half started off in the Wolverines favor with the Red and White scoring two straight goals to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Bethany's Jayzeba James deadlocked the match at 3-3 in the 63rd minute. Modou Faye and Rokeba Cordice assisted James on the goal.
  • After a scoreless overtime period, the Bison and Wolverines entered the penalty kick shootout; Jahzinho O'Garro struck first in the low right corner. The Wolverines kick went high above the crossbar, giving the Bison the 1-0 advantage. Modou Faye put the Bison up 2-0 aiming at the same spot as O'Garro. The second kick by the Wolverines went high but in the net, followed by Sebastian Arrocain putting the Bison up 3-1. A huge save by Adis Salihovic kept the Bison ahead 3-0. Arnold Fontas-Candida sealed the Bison victory hitting the lower left corner.  

MATCH NOTES

  • The Wolverines held the shot advantage, 18-9 and had 11 corner kick opportunities.
  • Bethany's Adis Salihovic had six saves on the match.
  • The Bison are making their second-straight appearance in the PAC Championship.

#5 Bethany will travel to Steubenville, Ohio to face #2 Franciscan University on Saturday, Nov. 5 for the PAC Championship beginning at 7 pm.
