Bethany's Julia Mouch/Allie Powell Named Academic All-District Selections

Nov. 5 – GREENWOOD, Ind. – Bethany College senior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and junior Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) have both been named First-Team Academic All-District II selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced the group on Thursday.

To be eligible for the award, voted on by Sports Information Directors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic and academic credentials.

Mouch was honored with her third-straight Academic All-District award, after being named to the list following both her sophomore and junior seasons.

In the classroom, Mouch boasts a 3.96 GPA while majoring in biochemistry with a minor in math. She is a Kalon Scholar at Bethany and is also a member of the American Chemical Society. A member of the Pre-Health Club, Mouch has been selected as an academic All-PAC award winning on three-separate occasions, and has been named to the Dean's List six times.

On the court, Mouch continues to produce at a high level, despite being moved from libero to outside hitter for her senior campaign. Over the course of the 2015 regular season, Mouch tallied 167 kills and 486 digs, which ranked second on the team. She ranked eighth in the PAC in digs per set (4.05), posting double-digit digs on 28 occasions. She broke the 20+-dig mark four times, including a season-high 30 against Case Western Reserve.

Powell, who has seen an influx in playing time with the new 6-2 system in place, has made the most of her chances on the court en route to earning her first Academic All-District nod.

In the classroom, Powell maintains a 3.94 GPA while majoring in biology. A three-time Presidents' List honoree, Powell is a member of the Beta Beta Beta National Biology Honor Society. A recipient of the Freshman Chemistry Award for highest GPA, Powell has twice earned Academic All-Conference status.

Over the span of the 2015 season, Powell has appeared in 28 matches while playing in 81 sets. She currently ranks second on the team in total assists, having tallied 399 on the season. She has also added 11 kills, 22 service aces and 94 digs to her totals. 22 times on the year Powell has notched double-digit assists, including a season-high 33 against Case Western Reserve University in the team's regular season finale.

"I am extremely proud of what Julia and Allie have both been able to accomplish," commented head coach Courtney Kline. "Both women are strong leaders on this team, setting the example for everyone else both on and off the court."

The pair of Bison earning Academic All-District awards marks the first time a duo of Bethany players has been named to the list in the same year since 2012 (Lauren Goodwill, Jessica Zavatchen). Mouch and Powell also make up two of the three players from the Presidents' Athletic Conference to earn the distinction this season (W&J's Nicole Bishwaty also named to the list).

First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected and announced on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
