Volleyball Cruises Past Frostburg State/D'Youville on Second Day of Behrend Invite

Sept. 12 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College volleyball team (7-2) earned two more victories at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Green & White first defeated Frostburg State by a 3-1 score, before sweeping D'Youville, 3-0.

Bethany opened the day by earning a four-set win over the Bobcats of Frostburg State University. After dropping the initial set by a 25-21 score, the Bison stormed back by taking the next three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-21). No individual stats are available at this time.

The Bison then closed out the tournament by improving to 4-0 on the weekend, defeating D'Youville by a 3-0 score. The sweep marked Bethany's fifth straight-set win of the season.

The Green & White took the opening set by a 25-15 score then cruised to the match victory by winning set two, 25-16, and set three, 25-10.

In the win, the Bison offensive was on top of their game, posting a team hitting percentage of .329. The Green & White tallied 32 kills in the match, committing just eight errors in 73 attempts. Junior Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the offense with eight total kills in the win.

OveralDakota McKenzient Bison notched at least four kills, including Dakota McKenzie, Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview), Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum), Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) and Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison). Lauber also led the way in assists, posting 15 in the match.

Defensively, the Bison were on top of their game, holding D'Youville to a .050 team hitting percentage. Bethany finished the contest with 50 total digs in just three sets. Mouch tallied a team-high 19, while Reilly Parker (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) posted 18.

The Bison were one of two teams to go undefeated at the Behrend Invitational. Only the Green & White and fellow PAC member, Geneva College, made it through the entirety of the weekend unscDylana McKenzier efforts in helping Bethany to four wins, both Dylana McKenzie and Mouch were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Riding a four-match winning streak, the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, September 16. Bethany will open the home portion of its schedule with a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup against Washington & Jefferson at 7 p.m.
