Men's Lacrosse Battles with Thiel

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College men's lacrosse team hosted the Thiel College Tomcats in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening in Bison Stadium. The Tomcats edged the Bison, 11-10. Senior Nick Melita led the Bison with a hat-trick. Tyler Britton and Clay Yingling each added two goals apiece.

GAME OVERVIEW

Nick Melita got the Bison on the board first. Clay Yingling gave the Bison a 2-0 lead before the Tomcats added a goal of their own within seconds of Yingling's goal. Freshmen Andre Currie and Tyler Britton added two more goals for the Bison to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first period.

The Bison continued to have control of the game until back-to-back goals from the Tomcats brought them within one, 5-4. The two teams continued to battle, with the Tomcats going up, 7-6 with 6:03 to go in the first half. Melita scored his third goal of the game with 4:59 to go which knotted the game at 7-7. The teams would head into the break deadlocked.

The first ten minutes of the third quarter was all in the Tomcats favor. Thiel took a four goal lead until Yingling hit the back of the net with 5:18 to go in the quarter. Bethany trailed 11-8 heading into the final period of play.

The teams were scoreless for the first nine minutes of the final quarter. Bethany goals from Joshua Allegra and Tyler Britton brought the Bison within one but their comeback would fall short.
