McClinton Breaks 300m Record

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Bethany College track and field team competed in the Ashland University Invitational. The Bison haven't competed since December 6th when they traveled to Youngstown. Caliyph McClinton was a prime example of the athletes not being rusty, as he set a record for the fastest 300 meter sprint in Bethany College Indoor History.

McClinton finished sixth in the 300 meter, outrunning NCAA Division I and Division II competition; Schools such as Duquesne, Ashland, Walsh and more were in attendance. McClinton's 35.86 is the best time in school history by over 2.5 seconds. The previous record was 38.16.

The 300 meter was a hot event for the Bison, with two other athletes finishing in the top 15. Daryes'e Fleming and Trey Young came in 12th and 13th with times of 37.75 and 38.16, respectively.

That group teamed up with Charlibot Marcelin to run the 4x400 meter relay. The quad finished with a time fast enough to catapult the Bison to the top of the Presidents Athletic Conference. Bethany's 3:32.2 was good enough to slide into a respectable 12th place in the Ashland Invite.

Before joining the 4x400, Marcelin finished 16th in the long jump with a 6.18m leap.

The women's team had more success in the field than the track.

Alexis Mahaffey had a 12th place finish in the weight throw chucking a 14.85m toss. She went on to have another top 25 finish (21) in the shot put with a 10.79m throw.

Makenna Philson finished 27th in the shot put with a 10.27m toss.

Madi Donelson jumped a 4.67m, placing her 32nd among the field.

The Bison will travel to Muskingum next Saturday to start a stretch of weekly competition. It will be another all day event.
