GAME 1: Capital 6, Bethany 5 - Final / 13 Innings

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany scored the first run of the game when junior Fran Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio/Catholic Central) led the third inning off with a double and was driven in on another double by sophomore Kayla Dinsmore (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek).
  • Capital manufactured a run in the fourth inning with the help of a single, a sacrifice and a two-out single to tie the game. Neither team would score again, sending the game into extra innings.
  • Utilizing international rules (runner placed at second base), neither team was able to score a run in the eighth inning.
  • Bethany seemingly broke the game open with a three-run ninth inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Bison got a pair of RBI doubles from sophomore Tyra Bell (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and senior Ashley Narigon (Washington, Pa./McGuffey) to score two runs, before a RBI-ground out by sophomore Sammie Weiss (Taylorstown, Pa./McGuffey) tacked on a third run.
  • Capital managed to score a run and load the bases on a trio of singles to draw within two, 4-2, with only one out.
  • The Crusaders used a fielder's choice and a single to score the tying runs, but senior pitcher Cassie Weiss (Taylorstown, Pa./McGuffey) managed to force a fly out to end the inning and leave the bases loaded to send the game into the 10th inning.
  • A sacrifice bunt and a RBI-single by sophomore Erica Amoroso (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) gave the lead back to the Bison, but a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th allowed Capital to tie the game once again.
  • Bethany was held without a run for the next three innings, before the Crusaders finally ended the contest in the bottom of the 13th inning with a sacrifice bunt and a RBI-single.

GAME NOTES

  • Weiss (4-3) was charged with the loss despite pitching 12.1 innings and limiting Capital to six runs (two earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts.
  • Several Bison had hits in the game, including Bell, who led the team with two hits and an RBI in the loss.

GAME 2: Capital 4, Bethany 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany managed to load the bases in the first inning, but a pair of fly balls ended the Bison scoring attempt.
  • Capital's bats kept the momentum of its game one win when they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a home run.
  • The Crusaders went on to add two more runs in the fourth inning to build a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Bison looked poised to make a comeback in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs.
  • Dinsmore drove a fly ball deep enough into foul territory to allow one run to score on a sacrifice fly, but the trail runner was caught trying to advance to third base for the second out. The next batter grounded out to close out the inning and help Capital maintain a 4-1 lead.
  • Bethany was held to a base hit and a walk over the final two innings to help the Crusaders secure the two-game sweep.

GAME NOTES

  • Senior pitcher Sam Binkley (Kenilworth, Ontario/St. James) fell to 3-2 on the season after yielding four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
  • Amoroso led the Bison with two hits, while Dinsmore had the lone RBI. Bethany did not have an extra-base hit in the game.
