Game 1: Saint Vincent 4, Bethany 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bison freshman Gabby Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio/Catholic Central) drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning to give Bethany a 1-0 lead before the Bearcats came to the plate.
  • Bethany senior pitcher Sam Binkley (Kenilworth, Ontario/St. James) preserved that lead until the fourth inning, when Saint Vincent struck for three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Bison were down to their final four outs with a runner on first base, but the Capaldi sisters managed to tie the game with consecutive two-out doubles in the sixth inning.
  • Gabby drove home one run first, before her sister Fran came to the plate and followed suit with an RBI-double of her own to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Saint Vincent reclaimed the lead with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to claim the important PAC win.

GAME NOTES

  • Binkley fell to 8-11 this year after she allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in the loss.
  • Gabby Capaldi finished with two RBI, while sophomore Erica Amoroso (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) added two hits in the game.

Game 2: Saint Vincent 5, Bethany 1 - SUSPENDED/TOP 5

GAME NOTES

  • A lightning delay in the fourth inning with the score 4-1 forced both teams inside for a mandatory period.
  • Because of the delay and the cloud coverage in the area, the umpires were forced to suspend the game three outs short of a complete game.
  • No announcement has been made as to when the game will be completed.
