Men's Volleyball: Bethany falls to Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. -  Men's Volleyball traveled up to Illinois to take on Trine University. The Bison fell in three sets to the Storm.

THE MATCHUPS

Trine 3, Bethany 0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bethany had more offensive success in this game compared to the prior games in the season. They started to flow more as the match progressed. Unfortunately they ran into a blazing hot team in Trine who entered this match with a seven game win streak.

The Bison fell in a hole fast going down 11-2 in the first set. They were able to trade some points late, scraping together an 11 point set themselves. However the lead was too big to overcome and Bethany dropped the first set to Trine 25-11.

The team chemistry changed slightly with McKay Ginez being the primary setter for the latter portion of the match. He ended the second set with all eight of the team's assists.

The change was a positive one for the Bison as they kept set two fairly close throughout. James Lucht had a few early kills to bring the game to a 6-5 standoff and Trine certainly felt the heat.

While Bethany was finding the floor on their attacks more often, they were never able to string together a streak. They maxed out at two points in a row in this set.

A four-point run for the Storm turned out to be the difference. The Bison lost the momentum and set two by a score of 25-20.

Ginez continued to be the prime setter for the Bison in the final set. The Bison started the set in similar fashion seeing a 6-4 score keep them in the match early on.

Much like the second set, the Storm had one defining run in the middle game that put them over the hump. An 8-2 run gave Trine an 18-8 lead. Bethany fought late forcing some errors and setting up Tyler Johnson for three kills, but the lead proved to be too much as the Bison lose in three sets.

BISON LEADERS

Lucht and Johnson remained the top point scorers for the Bison. Lucht led the team with 10 kills. Johnson was not far behind with eight.

Ginez shined as a setter with 12 assists on 44 attempts.

A herd of Bison were found digging the ball. Johnson led the team with eight with Leonardo Locatelli (7) and Ginez (5) to follow.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Bison will travel all the way to Michigan for a matchup against Adrian College. They will look at the Bulldogs through the net on Thursday, March 7th at 7PM.
