Men's Volleyball: Bison Finish First Ever Season in Program History

Pittsburgh, Pa.- The Men's volleyball team played their final match of their inaugural season against the Chatham Cougars. Despite fighting hard, the Bison were not able to get the win.

THE MATCHUP

Chatham 3, Bethany 0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-20)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first set was neck and neck the whole way. A James Lucht kill tied the match at four apiece. After trailing for most of the set, the Bison went on a four point run to tie the game at 15.

  • The Cougars were able to use their serve to go on their first run of the match. They one-upped the Bison by going on a five point run, eventually sealing the first set 25-18.

  • Bethany struggled to get anything going in the following set. Rylan Trapp had the only kill in a forgettable set loss.

  • In what could be the final set of the season, the Bison gave it all they had.

  • They battled early jumping out to a 7-4 lead on the back of Tyler Johnson's two kills. The Cougars would score a few points and tie, then the Bison would regain the initiative with a kill or an ace until the game was tied at 16 each. During that stretch Lucht had three kills, McKay Ginez had a kill, and Trapp served an ace.

  • Chatham went on a run to gain their biggest lead of the set. Bethany didn't back down from a 20-16 deficit. They fought until the very last whistle being one kill away from forcing the Cougars into a deuce situation.

  • Unfortunately, the Bison season came to an end in three sets.

Bison Leaders-

  • Lucht led the team with six kills.

  • Alexander Blair had 10 assists while also shining on defense with seven digs.

  • Trapp hit .429 on the day while adding an ace, a solo block, and a block assist to his line.

WHAT'S NEXT?
