Softball: Bison Split with Bearcats

Latrobe, Pa. – The Bethany College softball team split a doubleheader against PAC opponent Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon.

Game One Overview

Bethany 5, Saint Vincent 0  

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings of play. Lexie Vetter singled to third base allowing Destiny Goodnight to score. In the fourth inning, Paige Allen singled to the shortstop scoring Haley Eyler. Bison led 2-0 after four innings. In the fifth inning, Haley Eyler singled to right field to drive in Destiny Goodnight and in the seventh inning Morgan Huey doubled to center field to add another run to the Bison lead.

Game Two Overview

Saint Vincent 8, Bethany 7

The Bison and Bearcats battled back and forth in game two and ended in extra innings. Jennifer Oberthur singled to drive in Morgan Huey to begin game two. Haley Eyler doubled to drive in Oberthur to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning. In the second inning, Lexie Vetter doubled to score Destiny Goodnight. The Bearcats regained the lead in the second inning and extended their lead to 7-4 in the second inning. The Bison didn't back down. In the fifth inning the Bison cut the deficit. In the seventh inning, Kathleen Fuchs drove in Angela Brandel to deadlock the game at 7-7. In the 8th inning, the Bearcats hit a walk-off.

Bison Leaders

  • Haley Eyler went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored in game one and she went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Josie Wise earned the win in game one pitching 7.0 innings, six hits and eight strikeouts.

Saint Vincent Bearcats – 18-8, 7-7
