Women's Basketball Falls to #11 Hope

Nov. 21 – HOLLAND, Mich, - The Bethany College women's basketball team fell, 102-44, to #11 Hope College at the Hope College Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Flying Dutch came into the game ranked 11th in the top 25 by D3hoops.com.

The Bison battled early as a jumper from Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) gave the Bison a 5-4 lead with 7:49 left in the first quarter.
 
The Flying Dutchman were able to grab the lead and hold on for the remainder of the quarter, taking a 22-16 lead.
 
Holenka knocked down a triple to bring Bethany within five early in the second quarter, but Hope would pull away, taking a 54-27 lead in the halftime break.
 
The middle two stanzas proved to be the difference in the contest, as the Green & White found themselves outscored by the hosts, 64-20, between the third and fourth quarters.
 
Offensively, the Bison were led by Holenka, who was named to the weekend's all-tournament team. She finished the two-game tournament averaging 12.5 points per game, including eight in the tournament final. Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) and Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) also chipped in with seven points, each.
 
Bethany College will return to action on Tuesday, November 24 as they travel to Kenyon College for a 7:00 p.m. start. ​
