Bethany drops match to Medaille, 6-3

BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 17) - The Bethany College women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Medaille 6-3 Sunday morning at the Ewing Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bison posted its most wins in a contest this season. Bethany claimed a win at No. 1 doubles and a pair of wins in singles competition.
  • The No. 1 doubles team of junior Kristin Schafbuch (Marpingen, Germany/Arnold Janssen) and senior Alyssa Smydo (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) earned an 8-2 win over Medaille.
  • Schafbuch added her second win of the day in singles play. She claimed a win at No. 1 singles with a straight sets 6-3, 6-1 win at the top spot.
  • Junior Emily Folk (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) gave the Bison a third point in the win collum with her own straight sets win. She won at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 score.
  • Medaille claimed the other four singles spots to pick up the win over Bethany.
  • Smydo was narrowly defeated at No. 2 singles in three sets. She opened with a 6-4 win in the first set, but dropped a close second set at 7-6 after losing the tiebreaker 7-1. Her opponent, Danielle Pitasi, earned a 10-6 win in the tiebreaker third set to deal Smydo the loss.

  • Bethany will be at home for a non-conference match versus Muskingum on Friday, September 22 at the Ewing Tennis Courts.
