THE BASICS

Final Score: Bethany 17, Kent State University- Tuscarawas

Records:

  • KSUT (4-8)

  • Bethany Bison (7-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first inning was the only quiet inning in the game. Bethany found their stroke in the second scoring five runs. Extra base hits in the inning included a leadoff double by Sy Howell, an RBI triple from Devin Toothman, and an RBI double by Josh Speaker. JT Hubert chimed in with an RBI single.

  • Down 7-0 in the top of the fourth, the Golden Eagles scored three. Howell got every run back with one swing in the bottom of the inning. He turned on an inside pitch to launch one over the left field fence for a three run homerun. At the end of the fourth the scoreboard read 10-3 in the Bison's favor.

  • Howell repeated that same swing in the sixth inning for a solo home run. That would be his second long ball of the game and his third extra base hit.

  • KSUT put up five more in the seventh, but the Bethany offense was too much to handle.

  • Riley Brendel joined the RBI parade with a two-run homerun of his own. He found a breaking ball hanging over the plate and sent it to join Howell's two souveniers in left.
  • Seven Bethany Bison took the mound in this matchup. Pitchers that finished with zero unearned runs included: Christian Simmons, Logan Mayhle, Kyle Hlucky, and Christian Greenauer
  • The Bison's offensive showing elevated them to a 17-8 victory; giving some momentum before conference play begins.
