Baseball: Bison Split Doubleheader; Roell Reaches 100 Career Hits

Hermitage, Pa.- Bethany Baseball had to pivot their way to Hickory High School to play a doubleheader against PSU Shenango. The Nittany Lions entered the day on a five game winning streak that the Bison were able to snap in game two. The teams split 1-1. 


THE BASICS

Final Scores:

Game One: Shenango 5. Bethany 1

Game Two: Bethany 11, Shenango 0

Records:

  • Shenango (12-5)

  • Bethany (5-9)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE) 

  • Errors hurt the Bison in game one. They had four errors compared to the Lions clean game.

  • PSU put up three runs in the bottom of the second inning. While only two of them were earned. 

  • The Bison's only run came in the sixth inning. Nick Roell started with a leadoff double and found his way over to third with one out. Hunter Rhodes drove in the Bison's lone run on a sacrifice fly. 

  • That run was immediately given back in the bottom of the inning off an error. 

  • Shenango's Nick Osborne threw a complete game, only allowing the Bison a single run. His performance gave the Lions the game one victory.

BISON LEADERS IN GAME ONE: 

  • Tyler McKee had the only multi-hit game going 2-3.

  • Rhodes pushed the only run home via a sac-fly.

  • Logan Bennett gave up two earned runs off a home run, but finished with a decent outing throwing four innings with six strikeouts. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO): 

  • The Bison kept their offense in their bags until game two where they exploded for 11 runs. After a scoreless first, the green and white crossed home in every inning until the run rule came into effect in the fifth. 

  • During this big offensive bash, Roell earned his 100th hit. 

  • Josh Speaker had a big game. A home run to dead center was a piece of his team leading five RBI performance. 

  • Roell and Mike Hines both had multi-RBI performances. They added to the Bison's big seven run fifth inning. 

  • Trey Mantle had just as much success on the mound as his offense did at the plate. He threw a scoreless complete game, only allowing one hit. Mantle averaged over a strikeout an inning with seven K's. 

 

BISON LEADERS IN GAME TWO:

  • Roell had two hits, including his 100th hit as a Bison.

  • Mantle got the win in his shutout performance.

  • Speaker amassed five RBI led by his home run.
