Football: Yellow Jackets Swarm Bison

BETHANY, W.Va – The Bethany College football team hosted PAC rival Waynesburg University on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium, Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets stung the Bison, 34-17.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bethany's John McArdle hit a 38-yard field goal to give the Bison a 3-0 lead with 3:14 left in the first quarter.
  • The Bison lead didn't last long, with the Yellow Jackets scoring on one play for 46-yards with 1:27 to go in the first.
  • After one quarter of play, the Yellow Jackets led 6-3.
  • In the second, Waynesburg scored 14 points to take a 20-3 lead.
  • The Bison gained momentum scoring with 0:44 left in the half. Marquice Robinson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to De'Vaughn McWhorter.
  • Waynesburg led 20-10 at the halftime break.
  • After giving up a three-yard touchdown run to the Yellow Jackets the Bison stormed down the field. Tre'Jour Owens ran the ball in for a 6-yard run cutting the lead 27-17.
  • In the fourth, the Yellow Jackets scored off of an 87-yard touchdown rush securing the win over the Bison.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • (20) – Both teams had 20 first downs in the game.
  • (398) – The Bison had 398 total yards of offense.
  • (3) – The Yellow Jackets had three takeaways; two interceptions and one fumble.

LEADERS

  • Tre Owens led the Bison with 182 rushing yards on 30 attempts. He averaged 6.1 yards per rush and had one touchdown.
  • Tre Dean led the Bison with 78 receiving yards on seven receptions. He averaged 11.1 yards per catch.
  • De'Vaughn McWhorter added 57 yards receiving on five catches and 11.4 yards per catch. He added one touchdown.
  • Defensively, Daveon Eason led the Bison with nine tackles (seven solo). Tsi Fofang and Brennon Smith both had a sack for seven yards.
  • Jermain Snodgrass had an interception and returned it for 24-yards while Shawn Wheeler had two pass breakups.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Bethany will hit the road for a PAC contest against Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
